Loaded Cheeseburger Protein Bowl

Serves: 1 Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 10–15 minutes

Ingredients

For the Burger Bowl

  • 100g lean beef mince

  • 60g ripe tomatoes, diced

  • ½ avocado, sliced

  • 1 tbsp pickled jalapeños

  • 2–3 dill pickle slices, chopped

  • ¼ small red onion, thinly sliced

  • 90g baby gem or iceberg lettuce, shredded

  • 30g mature cheddar cheese, grated

  • Light spray of extra virgin olive oil

  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

For the Burger Sauce

  • 50g Greek yoghurt

  • 1 tbsp no-added-sugar tomato ketchup

  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard

  • ¼ tsp garlic powder

  • ¼ tsp smoked paprika

  • Pinch of sea salt

  • Freshly ground black pepper

Method

Step 1

Heat a frying pan over a medium-high heat and lightly spray with olive oil.

Step 2

Season the beef mince with salt and pepper. Add to the pan and cook for 6–8 minutes, breaking it apart with a spoon until browned and cooked through.

Step 3

While the beef is cooking, prepare the salad ingredients. Arrange the shredded lettuce in a serving bowl and top with the diced tomatoes, avocado slices, red onion, pickles and jalapeños.

Step 4

In a small bowl, whisk together the Greek yoghurt, ketchup, mustard, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt and pepper until smooth.

Step 5

Scatter the warm cooked beef over the salad and sprinkle with the grated cheddar cheese.

Step 6

Drizzle over the burger sauce and serve immediately.

Nutritionist’s Notes

This bowl captures all the flavours of a classic cheeseburger while providing a nutrient-dense, protein-rich meal. The beef supplies highly bioavailable protein, iron, zinc and vitamin B12, while the avocado contributes fibre, potassium and monounsaturated fats that support satiety.

Using a yoghurt-based burger sauce keeps the dish creamy and flavourful while increasing protein and reducing the need for heavily processed sauces.

Variations

  • Swap the beef mince for lean turkey mince or chicken mince.

  • Add crispy bacon pieces for extra flavour.

  • Include sliced cucumber or shredded cabbage for additional crunch.

  • Use blue cheese or feta instead of cheddar.

  • Add a fried egg on top for a restaurant-style burger bowl.
